Black Mountain Golf Club

Black Mountain is the newest golf course in Hua Hin, transformed from a lush jungle and pineapple plantation. The aim of the designer was to create a golf course that maintains as many of the natural elements of the site as possible. The most important features are the natural creeks that run throughout the course and the rocks that have been used as design features on many of the holes. A large number of the original trees have been kept and many new ones have been planted to frame the holes.

A critical element of the design concept was to create a course that could be a test for the top golfers in the world but also very playable and enjoyable to the average player. All the holes provide the golfer with a safe route, but for the more adventurous player there is a higher risk option with the potential for greater reward. Seashore paspalum grass was used for the tees, fairways and rough, providing a wonderful playing surface and a beautiful emerald green color.

Springfield Royal Country Club

Opened in 1993, this 18-hole Jack Nicklaus-designed course in Cha Am is regarded as one of the finest in Thailand. Springfield provides a challenge to golfers of all standards and accuracy is required at all times as the fairways are flanked by a series of hillocks and covered by a forest of small trees. With five sets of tees to play from, the course was designed to meet the demands of a recognized championship golf course, though it nevertheless remains an enjoyable challenge for golfers of every level.

Springfield is one of the best maintained courses in Thailand, and is very popular among the Hua Hin-based touring professionals who practice there regularly to keep their game finely tuned. With its layout, combined with the views of streams, lakes and sea, its popularity is easy to understand.

Royal Hua Hin Golf Club

The oldest golf course in Thailand, the Royal Hua Hin Golf Course was designed in 1924 by Scottish railway engineer AO Robins, and is one of the country's gems with royal associations that date back to the 1930s. With an area of over 180 acres, the club is located at the base of Khao Hin Lek Fai hill, just across the tracks from the Hua Hin Railway Station and a mere five-minute walk from the beach.

The original clubhouse has been preserved, and is located near the current one between the 10th tee and 18th green, contributing to the aura of elegance of a bygone era. The course is very natural, and is surrounded by breathtaking scenery. Major renovations and improvements in the 1980s have assured that it remains on par with the newer generation of golf clubs.

As you walk the course, you're afforded views of hills, temples and the sea - the 18th hole, with a beautiful temple in the background, is picture-perfect. The scenery, combined with some very good golf, has impressed players from all over the world for decades, making this a course not to be missed.

Palm Hills Resort and Country Club

About 10 kilometers north of Hua Hin in Cha Am, Palm Hills is an 18-hole course laid out on a large field and separated by tall palms. The course was designed by Max Waxler and features wide fairways.

Separated by a rocky outcrop that extends from the mountain range, the course runs from east to west with lakes at each end and incorporates fast greens with some tricky borrows. The strikingly beautiful clubhouse sits elegantly with the surroundings.

Two distinct nine-hole sections are separated by the clubhouse and an outcropping from the hills around which the club has been constructed. There is plenty of water on this course that winds around lakes and escarpments but the average golfer should not be daunted.

Palm Hills is a very popular course, due both to its beauty and its easily accessible location midway between Cha Am and Hua Hin.

Imperial Lake View Hotel & Golf Club

The first 36-hole championship course in Hua Hin, the Imperial Lake View is a favorite among residents and visitors, many of whom consider it the most beautiful course in the area as it is situated inland among farms and pineapple plantations on the west coast of the Gulf of Thailand 25 kilometers from Hua Hin.

The original Lake View 18-hole championship course is well maintained and, as the name suggests, a large lake divides the course in two and streams are in abundance. The 14th hole is particularly tricky with a tee box on one island and the green on another 210 yards away, all surrounded by water. With mature trees, blind shots to some greens, undulating fairways and several doglegs, the skills of the low handicapper will be tested, but there are a number of easy par holes as well, making the course a balanced test of golf for higher handicappers.

Majestic Creek Country Club

Designed by Thailand's foremost golf architect, Dr Sukitti Klangvisai - creator of Phuket's Loch Palm Golf Club - the 7,123- yard Majestic Creek course it is one of the longest in Thailand; one of the holes is an astonishing 770 yards long.

Dr Sukitti used the backdrop of the foothills of the mountain range dividing Thailand from Myanmar and the maze of streams that bisect the area to produce a layout that needs to be played with imagination and skill. Low handicap golfers will appreciate the course design, which features many challenging tee shots.
